july 2004

When developing my website, I was thinking of a tag line to describe my business. I wanted something short, sharp and succinct. Browse my website and you will see I came up with an equation:
communication + image = success

I believe you can refine your communication skills, both verbal and nonverbal, to enhance your personal and professional success. This newsletter provides some thoughts for your image development.
I-M-A-G-E

I = Impression
The way you present yourself has a profound effect on your future success. Assess yourself honestly. Are you projecting a positive and lasting impression - every time in every situation? Remember, you do not get a second chance to make a first impression.

M = Mannerisms
People ‘read’ your body language – does it match what you are saying? Aim for your nonverbal message to be consistent and congruent with your verbal message. Consider your mannerisms, gestures, posture, facial expressions, eye contact.

A = Attitude
Whether you are a high-energy extrovert or a quiet, even-keeled introvert you can demonstrate a positive, can-do attitude. Act and look successful and you will be viewed as successful. Project confidence and competence through your refined communication skills. Most of all, believe in yourself!

G = Grooming
Good grooming sends a clear message about how much you respect yourself. Pay scrupulous attention to your skin, hair, dental hygiene and nail care. Strive for a polished personal appearance that reflects your individuality and unique personality.

E = Etiquette
Exemplary personal and communication skills in social and business environments will go a long way towards professional success. You will appear confident and competent – you will be noticed and remembered. You will be regarded as a person who’s got what it takes!

Mary Spillane in Branding Yourself says "For image-building to succeed it has to be true to yourself. Trying to become another person is doomed to failure. Successful image development requires integrity".

Selecting eyewear

Glasses and sunglasses are a fashion accessory that make a statement. Here are some tips for selecting your next pair:

Frames - may turn upward, outward or downwards and your face shape determines which best suits. If in doubt, an oval frame suits most people.

Size - eyewear should balance with the overall size of your face and body proportions.

Colour - your best colours for clothing are also your best for eyewear. Matching frame colour to your hair colour is flattering too.

Ideally, update your glasses every two years. Seek the assistance of a professional who understands the aesthetics of choosing eyewear.

Alternatively, let me help you choose the perfect pair of glasses. To book your shopping trip call me on 02 9337 4341.
